The Client Experience: What It’s Like to Work with Me

Written by : Angelica Kenworthy

Welcome, I’m Angi! I know firsthand that beginning therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown. You might wonder if you’ll be judged, if you’ll feel understood, or if you’ll know what to say. If we work together, I want you to know you don’t have to be anything other than you. Therapy isn’t about fixing you—because you were never broken to begin with. It’s about challenging your limiting beliefs, deepening self-understanding, and learning to hold compassion for every part of yourself.

I Am Your Ally

From our very first session, I prioritize making you feel safe, supported, and seen. I am not here to evaluate you, reduce you to a diagnosis, or tell you what is right or wrong. I am here to sit beside you and help you untangle the heaviness. I am here to celebrate you in all your complexity. Humans are wired for connection– you weren’t meant to struggle alone.

Growth Happens Through Challenge

Therapy won’t always be easy, but you’ll quickly realize that the tough moments are where the transformation happens. We will likely face patterns that no longer serve you, moments of doubt, and the fear of change. When difficult emotions arise in session, we will approach them with curiosity rather than pushing them away. We will listen to what they are trying to tell you.

It is important to me that when I challenge you, I don’t make you feel small, but I help you feel empowered. I will encourage you to step outside your comfort zone, only at your own pace. Therapy is about learning how to hold space for your discomfort while moving forward—and I will be right there with you as you do.

"Tell Me Every Terrible Thing You Ever Did, and Let Me Love You Anyways."

I love this quote because it speaks to the power of the therapeutic relationship. Shame convinces us that if people knew our most intimate thoughts, mistakes, and regrets, they would turn away from us. Healing happens when we decide to bring these parts out of the darkness and into the light—realizing they don’t make us unworthy of love, they make us human. You can bring your messiest, most complicated feelings into our space, and they will be met with care.

Healing Isn’t Changing—It’s Holding Compassion for Every Part of Yourself

Together, we will work on quieting the part of you that says you’re unworthy, on making room for your vulnerability, and on developing a loving relationship with yourself. Healing doesn’t mean never struggling again. It means offering yourself grace on the difficult days, choosing to trust yourself on the uncertain ones, and knowing that you deserve peace and joy in your life through it all. Therapy is a journey, and I’m honored to join you on it.

If this resonates with you, let’s connect.
